EscapePod is a podcast that features fun and adventurous science fiction stories. I've never read slush for a publication before. My official title is Associate Editor. "Slush" is a bit archaic, but it's basically the big pile of submissions sent to the magazine in the hopes of getting published. I'm always thrilled when I receive a hold notice from an editor because it means I have "passed the slush." It sounds daunting, like I've just walked through the Fire Swamp, but it's not that serious. All it means is that a first reader (that's me!) has enjoyed the story enough to pass it up for further consideration.
